Children's Liturgy of the Word

Children's Liturgy of the Word is a parish-based program which seeks "to develop in...children an appreciation of the word of God." (Directory for Masses With Children, 14) This is accomplished by gathering the children separately from the adults during occasional Sunday Masses and using simplified Scripture texts and interactive preaching directed at increasing an understanding of the scriptures in children ages four through second grade.

At St. Francis of Assisi Children's Liturgy is offered during regular weekend Masses, September through May, at the 10:00am Mass.

At the beginning of Mass, Father will call forth the Minister of the Word for Children and will invite any child(ren) ages 5 years through second grade to come forward. The children will assemble in front of Father and will go with the adult leaders who will lead them through the readings and Gospel at a child’s level. The children will return to the assembly at the time of the recitation of the Creed.

There is no registration necessary and any parent who would like to accompany their child(ren) is welcome to do so.
